Pain Relief

TTUHSC administrators, employees and friends recently gathered to dedicate the new location of the Texas Tech Physicians International Pain Center. The 12,700-square-foot building includes nine exam rooms, two operating rooms and two procedure rooms. The International Pain Center's team of highly skilled physicians has been directly involved in developing innovative technologies, devices and procedures used to ease the pain of countless domestic and foreign patients.

Members of this impressive team include:

  • Mark V. Boswell, M.D., Ph.D., chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management and director of the International Pain Center. Specialties include acute and chronic pain, cancer pain, neuropathic pain, spinal pain, acupuncture, hospice and palliative care and pain research.
  • Gabor Racz, M.D., professor and Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management. Specialties include chronic spinal pain, nerve entrapments and pain after spinal surgery.
  • Miles R. Day, M.D., Pain Fellowship director and chief medical officer of the Surgical Center for Pain Management. Specialties include chronic spinal pain, spinal pain and neuromodulation.
  • Rafael Justiz, M.D., specialties include acute and chronic pain, spinal pain and vertebral compression fracture pain.
  • Ralph Nussbaum, D.O., specialties include acute and chronic pain conditions and musculoskeletal pain.
  • Robert Johnston, M.D., specialties include acute and chronic pain conditions and hospice and palliative care.

Construction of the center's new state-of-the art location was made possible in part by a generous contribution by the Messer Family made in honor of Gene and Carlene Messer, longtime Lubbock residents and Texas Tech supporters.
